Last week I was in Stratford Ontario to build some fencing , add a deck skirt to an existing deck and a door to a crawl space opening. It was a pleasure working with the client to improve this beautiful century home.
I started on the fencing first since the weather was cooperating! Outdoor carpentry is great when the weather is good and this fall has been awesome!
Since there was TV cables near the fence line the posts had to be dug by hand. Stratford was new territory for me and the digging turned out to be much easier than expected. GTA hand digging is not necessarily this smooth. I dug the holes very quickly and easily….thank you Stratford soil. Next was setting the 6 x 6 pressure treated posts in concrete. I had to match up the fence style that was currently in place.
The following day I started to build the fence rail and finished with the fence boards and gate.
Next on the list for the client was the deck skirting and matching it up to the existing deck skirt on the other side of the deck.
Last but not least was the enclosure of an outdoor crawl space door. After consulting with the client, we came up with an idea. We used the fence boards for the door to compliment the entrance way to the crawl space. The finish custom door was visually appealing and blended in nicely with the outdoor fence. This door’s main purpose is to keep out critters! The entranceway to the crawl space was purposely designed not to be air tight to allow for air flow since the crawl space is a dirt floor with moisture.
