New Custom Fence in Oakville
With warmer temperatures above normal I was able to build a four foot high pressure treated horizontal custom fence this fall.
After meeting with the client and looking at pictures of what she would like. I devised a plan for a pressure treated wood fence with gate. I used 6×6 posts and decided to use 5/4” deck boards instead of fence boards because fence boards are thin and easily bend. Deck boards are thicker so they keep their shape.
The first thing you must do is call in locates for gas, hydro, sewer and cable lines that might be buried under the ground and get the all clear.
Work smart (and efficient!) not hard! The renting of a tow behind post hole digger was efficient and saved the client labour costs. I placed the posts in the right spots, using a string line to ensure the fence was in a straight line. Once the posts were level and braced I mixed the concrete and placed the cement in the holes.
Day Two….time for the real fun to begin!
I back filled the holes with the dirt from the post holes and began framing. Once the framing was in place, I started to fill in the field with the deck boards. I attached the boards with deck screws . I used a a small router to round over all of the cut edges
Day three…time tidy up and put my toys away!
After the digging of fence posts the extra dirt was placed in the garden beds around the home. It was good soil and the not clay like is often dug up in the GTA. I gave the grass a rake and loaded my tools and garbage into my truck. Checked in with the client to see if there was any thing else I could do for them and off to the next job!
